IALE-China
History
IALE China Chapter was founded in 1989. By the end of October, 2008, the number of registered members reached 318, and it is still increasing since landscape ecology has become a widely accepted concept and stream of studies in China. Many universities and research institutes have MSc and PhD level candidates specialized in the field of landscape ecological research or planning.
The council of IALE China has about 70 members, who aperiodically meet and discuss about IALE issues at national and international conferences.
Since 1989, IALE China has organized 9 national/international conferences. Now the frequency of national conference for landscape ecologists is decided to be held each two years, and the next conference will be held in June, 2009 in Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan Province.
IALE China Chapter has released its own newsletters 3 times a year. It is edited by volunteers from the members, mainly PhD candidates and Post Docs. The contents include new scientific project introduction, abstracts of PhD and MSc dissertations, new publications, conferences and job vacancies etc. The young scientists have become an active group of members in the IALE China Chapter.
The present Executive Committee of IALE China was elected in December 2005, during one of the national conferences. The goal of the new board is to encourage Chinese landscape ecological research in theory and application, and promote the international cooperation and information exchange between Chinese scientists and the world ecologists.
